Sens. Harding & Sampson Statement on Bport Ballot Box Tampering: CT Laws “need teeth.”

April 17, 2024

Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding and Sen. Rob Sampson, Ranking Senator on the Government Administration and Elections Committee, issued the following statement regarding the State Elections Enforcement Commission’s referral of two Bridgeport ballot box tampering cases to the Chief State’s Attorney.

“For embarrassing fiascos like what we all saw in Bridgeport, there’s no real threat of jail time for bad actors. Our laws need to have teeth so people will think twice before they engage in this activity. They don’t have teeth today. That’s unacceptable. That’s why Republicans are leading the push to reform our laws to mandate that bad actors and ballot stuffers do jail time. Connecticut residents are demanding—and certainly deserve—this level of reform.”
