Senate Passes Bill That Would Require New Barber And Hairdresser Training For Textured Hair

Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, said that the bill will bring “some equity and parity.”

“It has been brought to our attention that there are not enough hairdressers who have this specialty,” she said. “Although it is touched on within the curriculum, it is not to the degree that most would need and we want to make sure that those who are going through this program have the opportunity to learn more about this textured hair and are able to, perhaps, just focus in that particular area.”
