Senator Somers Applauds the Approval of Funds to Improve Access to Housing in Griswold

September 26, 2023

State Senator Heather Somers (R-Groton) applauds the approval of $8,707,755 in allocated funds towards the “Route 164 Infrastructure Project” in Griswold by the Community Investment Fund 2030 Board. The Community Investment Fund (CIF) will fund the municipal water infrastructure project, which will help access more than 325 acres of commercial land along Route 164. The funds also will help to facilitate the Heritage River Village development, 216 workforce housing units, and 210 units of age-restricted housing, as well as new public facilities and a regional YMCA and child development center.

“It is exciting to see the Community Investment Fund Board sees the need for more accessible, truly affordable housing throughout the state.” Senator Somers said. “The money allocated will help provide housing to families, single parents, young people, and individuals who have aged out of their homes. Everyone deserves a home, no matter age or income, and the money allocated today will help to do just that. Current and future residents of Griswold look forward to final approval.

The project now awaits final approval by the State’s Bond Commission, which is expected to meet in the middle of October.
