The threats of violence we have seen against schools in Newtown, Fairfield and across Connecticut highlight the need to strengthen our laws in this area.

Tomorrow, March 2, a public hearing will be held on Senate Bill 246, An Act Concerning the Zero-Tolerance Safe School Environment.

The proposal would increase the penalties for when a threat involves a preschool, K-12 school or an institution of higher education.

The public hearing starts at 1 p.m. at the Gen Re Auditorium, University of Connecticut, 1 University Place, Stamford.
