Distracted driving is a public safety crisis that demands urgent attention. In 2023 alone, 3,275 lives were lost in crashes involving distracted drivers, with over 700 injury crashes occurring daily across the U.S. This growing threat endangers drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

To address this, I hosted an educational and awareness-focused session at State Police Troop G in Bridgeport, bringing together experts from AAA Northeast, CT State Police, CDOT, and local police departments. With voices like Watertown Police Chief Joshua Bernegger and Newtown Police Chief David Kullgren, we reinforced a clear message: distracted driving is not an accident—it’s a preventable choice.

We discussed the role of education, the importance of stronger enforcement tools, and the need for updated laws to reflect today’s distracted driving realities. This collaboration between lawmakers, law enforcement, and the community is essential to creating safer roads.

By raising awareness, empowering law enforcement, and promoting personal accountability, we can protect all who share our roadways. Let’s act now—before another preventable tragedy occurs.

One of my favorite annual traditions—serving up smiles, pancakes, and community spirit at the Newtown Community Center’s Bunny Breakfast!

It’s always a joy to connect with families, see familiar faces, and be part of a special event that brings so much joy to our community. From coffee to conversations (and even a few bunny selfies), mornings like this remind me why I’m proud to serve.

Grateful to the Newtown Community Center and all the amazing volunteers who make this event a success year after year.
