Fasano: Democrat Budget Far from Complete

May 10, 2016

HartfordSenate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement in response to comments from the Senate Democrat Caucus spokesperson on the state budget released today and Republican calls for more budget details before a vote.

“There’s no uncertainty the Republicans would vote no on a bad budget. It is hard to believe the Democrats would release a statement saying they are waiting for Republicans to hold a vote based on the limited budget details released today. In fact there are still major unknowns about this budget and we have yet to receive many of the details on the revenue side which is still incomplete. If the Democrats were in such a rush to get this budget vote over with, then why are we still waiting for the details? Why is the budget still incomplete? Why is transparency being delayed?

“As it stands right now, looking at the budget bill, we cannot see all of the revenue the Democrats are counting on. I can only assume this revenue will be identified and clarified in the implementer bill. But until we have additional documents and details, the budget we see currently is missing key information and is far from complete. To say this budget has structural changes and will put our state on the right path is also laughable. It is business as usual at the Capitol, at a time when we need real change. It figures that the Democrats need to blame others for their complete failure to do their job.”
