CT Senate GOP Commends Hartford PD & Fed Officials on Smuggling Guilty Plea

November 25, 2024

Sen. Rob Sampson, Sen. Eric Berthel, and Sen. Stephen Harding today commended federal law enforcement officials and the Hartford Police Department for their collaboration in generating a guilty plea from a Mexican citizen residing in Hartford for smuggling over a dozen undocumented immigrants into the U.S. and forcing them to work under threat.

“In Connecticut, Democrats at the State Capitol passed a law which greatly restricts local police and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from talking to each other.

That’s why we are encouraged to see that the Hartford Police Department played a key role in this investigation. We commend the Hartford Police Department for doing so.

Democrats have already pledged to try to make Connecticut an even stronger magnet for illegal immigration in 2025 by further limiting communication between local and federal authorities.

Republicans will do all we can to prevent that from happening as we continue to try to make our state and country safer and more secure.”
