Sen. Harding & Berthel Statement on Middlebury Grocery’s Closure: “Very sad day.”

April 12, 2024

Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding and Sen. Eric Berthel, who represents Middlebury, today issued the following statement regarding Middlebury’s Four Corners Grocery Store announcing it will close after 83 years in town.

“Today is a very sad day for Middlebury with the announcement of the closing of truly one of the last, old fashioned ‘local grocers.’ The closing of this store certainly amplifies Senate Republicans recent statements about the terrible impact of Bidenomics and the ongoing impact of Connecticut Democrats’ burdensome taxation policies. It is a fact that Connecticut has some of the highest costs of living in the nation, and therefore not surprising at all that a small, local business can no longer sustain itself in this economy. Connecticut deserves better than this. Thank you to the Dinova family for your 83 years in Middlebury.”
