Senator Jason Welch Says Farewell to General Assembly

Senator Jason Welch of Bristol is honored for his service in Hartford at the state capitol after announcing he will not seek re-election.

Hartford, CT- State Senator Jason Welch (R-Bristol) will not be running for re-election to the 31st district. After two terms in the Senate, Welch has decided to head back home to Bristol to help raise his family. Sen. Welch has said he will be staying involved but from a distance with more balance to take care of his family, his work and his community.

“This opportunity has been a wonderful journey and I appreciate all of the responsibility and trust that comes with it,” said Sen. Welch. “Without the great partnership I have with my wife Elizabeth, the last four years would not have been possible.”

Senator Welch joined the state senate in 2010. He has served as ranking member on the Veterans Committee and on the Public Health Committee. Senators around the circle chamber expressed their gratitude to Senator Welch for being engaged and a leader on issues crucial to his constituents.

In the end Sen. Welch thanked his district counter-part Representative Whit Betts and legislative aide, Jill Fitzgerald for their hard work and friendship. After Welch received a standing ovation.

Senate District 31 includes the cities and towns of Bristol, Plainville, Harwinton, Plymouth and Thomaston.
