Mt. Carmel Festival Set for First Weekend in August

This week on Senator Kissel and Friends I had the pleasure of hosting Retired Enfield Police Chief and President of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, Carl Sferrazza, to discuss the upcoming Mt. Carmel Festival, set for the first weekend in August.

The Mt. Carmel Society has had a presence in Enfield since 1926 and continues to mean so much both to the members and to those who enjoy and benefit from its activities. For the past 93 years the society has featured a festival on the first weekend in August to celebrate their Italian culture and offer local families a place to meet new neighbors, enjoy some great food and listen to fantastic entertainment.

This year the festival will take place Thursday, August 2nd through Sunday, August 5th with some very exciting, family-friendly events. Admission is $3 and children 12 and under get into the festival for free.

Thursday, August 2nd

Feast and Candlelight Procession starting at dusk 

Friday, August 3rd – 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Italian Specialties including musical performances by:

The Savage Brothers

Equinoxx  

Saturday, August 4th – 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Festival opens at 5 p.m. including musical performances by:

Season 14 Winner of American Idol and Connecticut Resident –

Nick Fradiani

Sunday, August 5th– 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Celebrate mass on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the beautiful outdoor chapel followed by a free continental breakfast

Grease Pole Competition to start at 6 p.m.

All in all it is a great weekend to come out and bring your family and friends to celebrate the 93rd consecutive year of the Mt. Carmel Festival in Enfield. Not only is this a great weekend for food and festivities it is also a wonderful weekend to focus on faith and community.

All of the food is cooked right here in town with special help from the Women’s Auxiliary headed by the dedicated Sheila Vasseur. In addition to the homemade food, the musical performances are sure to be a crowd pleaser.
