Republican lawmakers are blowing the whistle on another state budget crisis [WTNH]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — At the State Capitol, Republican lawmakers are blowing the whistle on another state budget crisis after Election Day.
The Governor’s budget director declined an invitation to a hearing Wednesday, but Republicans heard from the head of the state’s non-partisan Office of Fiscal Analysis.

Those number crunchers say the current red ink is already at $77-million, and that includes a one-time legal settlement that netted the state $80-million. Without that settlement, the actual deficit number would be $157-million.

“There’s not a doubt that we have a deficit. The question is how much, and the question is where is that deficit coming from? Is it income tax? Is it sales tax? Is it a combination?,” said Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven.)

The state is only three months into the new budget year.
