Honoring Heritage, Service, and Community

This morning, as State Senator Tony O’Hwang, I was grateful to join the Gaelic American Club for their annual St Patrick’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony honoring the lives and legacy of members who are no longer with us. On this day, we not only celebrate Irish pride, heritage and culture, but also pause to remember those who helped build and strengthen this community through their friendship, service, and spirit.

It was an honor and great fun to speak at this meaningful tradition and to stand alongside so many who carry forward the values of remembrance, unity, and pride.

Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders

It is National Girl Scout Week, and this week at the State Capitol I had the privilege of joining Girl Scouts from Fairfield, Bethel, Newtown, and across Connecticut for Girl Scout Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Connecticut.

I was especially honored to take part in a Girl Scout Pinning Ceremony in the Senate Circle, recognizing these remarkable young leaders and their commitment to service, civic engagement, and making their communities stronger.

Many of these scouts have been working toward their “Democracy for Juniors” badge, learning how our government works and how their voices can help shape the future. Seeing their curiosity, confidence, and passion for making a difference gives me great hope for the next generation of leaders.

That was especially highlighted by 8th grader Jacqueline Glick, and her four years of advocacy lobbying and testifying in the state Capitol to make the lollipop the state candy. She accomplished her goal and set a true model for all of Fairfield!
