“We must continue our work to create a state that is affordable for all, with safe communities and full support of law enforcement. We must also continue to properly invest in students and teachers throughout Connecticut, while ensuring that those investments produce meaningful results. I am proud to work with my colleagues to advance these measures and stop reckless spending and bad policy by the Democrats in Hartford.”

As we all prepare for the festivities surrounding the 250th birthday of the founding of our beloved United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, I am inspired to share the very first “Independence Day” message from the first Vice President of the United States, John Adams. In a beautiful letter to his wife Abigal on the eve of July 4, 1776, he describes what he thinks this day should entail for future generations.

“I am apt to believe that (Independence Day) will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival...

...It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.

...It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.”

No politics and no mudslinging. Just a devotion to God, a love for our country, our independence and our freedom.

Please enjoy the holiday weekend! Stay hydrated, stay cool and be safe.

May God bless us all and continue to bless the United States America!
