State Rep. Eleni Kavros-Degraw (D–Avon) took to social media over the weekend, gushing about how a town in her district “…looks like it fell out of a #hallmark #christmas movie…” And she’s right - it does. Many of Connecticut’s small towns do, which is why so many Hallmark movies are set here.

But as Chair of the House Planning & Development Committee, Rep. Kavros-Degraw aggressively rammed through a revamped version of a previously vetoed Democratic housing bill - one that gives Hartford politicians control over local zoning and pressures small towns to build large new housing developments.

Fun fact: In lots of Hallmark Christmas movies, the “bad guy” shows up to steamroll a charming small town so they can build a ski resort… or large new housing developments.

In real life, Rep. Kavros-Degraw and the CT Democrats are playing that villain role perfectly.

💡🔌When even a top exec from the state’s largest utility giant says the PUBLIC BENEFITS CHARGE (hidden taxes) on your electric bill has to go… you know it’s bad.

Republicans have been demanding this for years, and we are not stopping until the public benefits charge is gone and families get the relief they deserve. We will continue the fight to eliminate this charge during the 2026 legislative session and make our great state more affordable!
