Stephen Harding, named Senate Minority Leader in 2024, represents Connecticut’s 30th Senate District. He was first elected to the Senate in 2022 after serving four terms in the 107th House District. A lawyer and Brookfield resident for nearly 30 years, Senator Harding has been involved with local boards and is a coach for youth sports. He serves as Ranking Member of the Environment Committee and Legislative Management Committee. He is also a member on the Education, Finance, and Judiciary Committees.

Flatiron Battery Storage Project update-
At our Monday Town Council Meeting, the Town Council unanimously approved placing a moratorium on Lithium Battery Storage Facilities in New Milford.
Even though some felt we, as a Town, should not do a moratorium
but wait for the State to enact legislation concerning BESS Lithium Storage facilities - I stated at the meeting, and the Council agreed that this legislation could take some time if/before it is enacted. This could provide a window for an application to be submitted to the siting council without a Townwide moratorium. Even though the Siting Council has full jurisdiction, we can add this as part of our
comments once an application is filed, along with other testimony.

As I have been speaking with our CT delegation concerning this project and the community's concerns, a big thank you to State Senator Harding, Rep Buckbee, for coming to our Town Council meeting and hearing from the public as well as the Town on this project and our concerns about the Health and Safety of the community.
Thank you to our full delegation of State Senator Harding, Reps. Buckbee, Callahan, and Buchsbaum for the letter to the Energy and Technology committee requesting a moratorium until DEEP establishes regulations.
