Eric Berthel was elected to his fifth term representing the 32nd Senate District in 2024. He is the Republican Ranking Member on the legislature’s Banking, Education, and Executive & Legislative Nominations Committees. He is also a co-chair of the Legislative Internship Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee and the legislature’s newly formed Select Committee on Special Education.

 

Eric is extensively committed to public school education and ensuring that we are always doing what is in the best interest of the children of Connecticut. He has also been recognized for his pro-business/small business advocacy and his support of important initiatives in health care, banking, and law enforcement.

Yesterday, as Ranking Member of the Education Committee, I spoke about the abuse of power by the Majority Democrats in Hartford who imposed unprecedented time limits on public participation in public hearings in three different committees on three different bills, that all will curtail your rights in one way or another.

The Democrats sent a message that was loud and clear - we truly do not care what you have to say, we don’t care if you want to share your thoughts and we can and will use all the power we have however we want.

It’s time for a change of leadership in Hartford, leadership that welcomes and does not restrict any voices of the people they represent.

We are 8 hours in on a public hearing to hear from concerned parents, educators, and kids about how an overreaching homeschooling bill (HB 5468) is a bad idea.

We’ve heard from 100 people so far, and not even halfway through the list of speakers. Nearly ALL who’ve spoken so far oppose this bill. I’ll continue to listen until everyone’s voice has been heard, and hope my colleagues join me to say NO to this damaging bill!
