This morning outside Fairfield Town Hall, I called for a pause and thoughtful revisions to Fairfield’s automated traffic enforcement program.

I support speed and red-light cameras as tools to improve roadway safety, especially in school zones. But with nearly 190,000 projected violations in one month and an estimated $3.2 million in monthly fines, it is clear we need stronger public education, better signage, and greater transparency.

This program must be about safety, not revenue. Any funds generated should go toward roadway safety improvements, awareness, signage, and education.

I want this program to succeed, but success depends on public trust. We need to pause, listen, learn from the data, and make adjustments that preserve the purpose of this important safety initiative.

Yesterday’s Memorial Day Parade and @port5usa - National Association of Naval Veterans Luncheon were powerful reminders of what this day truly means.

Memorial Day is not simply a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It is a solemn day of remembrance for the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in service to our nation and the principle of freedom and democracy.

I was honored to stand with veterans, families, first responders, and community members as we reflected on their sacrifice and the freedoms we enjoy because of it. May we never forget those who served, those who sacrificed, and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Thank you to Port 5 and Fairfield Memorial Day Parade organizer Betsy Brown Miller and all who helped make yesterday’s remembrance so meaningful.

I was honored to attend Fairfield’s Annual Memorial Sea Ceremony at South Benson Marina to pay tribute to our maritime military veterans and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

This solemn and deeply moving tradition remembers the brave men and women lost at sea or laid to rest beneath the waters they served upon with courage, honor, and devotion to freedom.

My sincere gratitude to Port 5 Naval Veterans and the National Association of Naval Veterans for preserving this meaningful ceremony each year, and to the first responders in attendance whose continued service and dedication help protect our community every day.

May we never forget the sacrifices of those who gave everything so that we may live in liberty and peace.
