Dialogue on Housing Policy and Local Impacts
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful community conversation on Connecticut’s housing mandates, legislative transparency, and the real-world impacts these policies can have on our towns. Drawing on my experience as former Co-Chair of the General Assembly’s Housing Committee and as a current member of the Planning and Development Committee, we focused on helping residents and local leaders better understand 8-30g and HB 8002 and what these state decisions could mean for local planning, infrastructure, and neighborhood character.
We also addressed serious concerns about the so-called “opt-in” framework: whether it truly reflects a voluntary choice for municipalities, and what pressures it may place on local decision-making. When major legislation advances without sufficient public input, communities are left seeking answers after the fact. I appreciated the thoughtful questions and perspectives shared, they kept the discussion grounded in the practical concerns residents are living with every day.
I remain committed to open dialogue, transparency, and balanced housing solutions that expand affordability while respecting local voices and community needs. Watch the full presentaion here: youtu.be/XLL-n0UAFhI
