“Wrong Direction.” CT Senate GOP Statement on Health Care Costs Rising Significantly - CT Senate Republic

Sen. Tony Hwang, Sen. Jeff Gordon and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding a state government report which found that current strategies to contain health care cost growth “do not appear to be working.” (Page 8: https://portal.ct.gov/ohs/-/media/ohs/cost-growth-benchmark/benchmark-reports-py2023/ohs-hcbi-cost-growth-benchmark-report-py2023.pdf?rev=a3cf8ad1307048c68f00963540982c13)

“Like our unaffordable electricity bills and taxes, health care costs contribute significantly to the cost of living crisis in Connecticut.

Total statewide healthcare expenditures grew by nearly 8% from 2022 to 2023. The benchmark for cost growth in 2023 was 2.9%.

The nearly 8% growth in total healthcare expenditures to $11,886 per capita was nearly double the rate for 2022.

Connecticut Senate Republicans continue to speak directly with small business owners and working families.

They tell us that our state is going in the wrong direction. Their burdens are getting heavier, not lighter.

At the State Capitol, we must work collaboratively to pass policies which lower the cost of living here.”
