At Ansonia-based small business Coastal Carriers, CT Senate Republican lawmakers today launched a grassroots tour of the state to join with job creators and local leaders in demanding relief from the high cost of living and doing business here.
“We have a cost of living crisis in CT and people are demanding relief,” Sen. Stephen Harding said. “We’ve all heard stories about people we know and businesses leaving CT. The reasons are obvious: We have the 3rd highest property taxes in the U.S. We have the 2nd highest electricity rates in the U.S. Our regulatory burdens are not business-friendly. CT is on the wrong track. Republicans are trying to change that.”
Republicans noted how Democrats are now proposing a tax on Amazon deliveries, they want to study a future mileage tax, and they want taxpayers to pay workers who go on strike.
“Electricity bills and CT taxes are too damn high,” Sen. Ryan Fazio said. “Republicans continue to press for significant relief by getting the hidden ‘public benefits’ tax removed from our unaffordable electricity bills. Senate Republicans continue to offer a plan for income and property tax relief to lower burdens for working-class families by $1,000 annually.”
The lawmakers were joined by Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti, who stressed the need for relief from a municipal and business perspective.
They say they will continue touring the state in order to hear directly from CT residents, families, and small businesses.
“Republicans will be criss crossing CT,” Sen. Harding. “We won’t stop fighting to get much-needed relief to people across CT.”
