Senator Heather Somers Statement Regarding Walk Out on Vote for Commissioner Marissa Gillett - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT—Senator Heather Somers (R—Groton) released the following statement regarding today’s Senate Session, and boycott of the vote for PURA Commissioner Marissa Gillett’s re-nomination:

“Today, I chose to walk out with my Senate Republican colleagues rather than cast a vote on the re-nomination of Marissa Gillett. At a time when we should be voting for leadership that will help lower electric rates, we were instead asked to move forward despite serious concerns and alleged backroom deals tied directly to individuals in our own chamber.

It’s deeply disappointing that it came to this. We are elected to represent our constituents, and today, we were unable to do so in good faith. With Democrats in control, we have yet to see the energy cost relief that residents desperately need—taking a stand was the only responsible choice.”
