Senator Heather Somers Applauds Final Approval of Bonding Funds for Key 18th District Projects - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – Senator Heather Somers (R-Groton) today applauded the final approval by the State Bond Commission of critical bonding funds for several significant projects in the 18th District. These include $250,000 for upgrades at the Mystic & Noank Library, $250,000 for marina construction in Stonington, and $8 million for environmental remediation at the former InterRoyal site in Plainfield.

“I’m thrilled to see these crucial investments officially approved, as they will bring long-term benefits to our communities in the 18th District,” said Senator Somers. “These projects will not only enhance our local infrastructure but also stimulate economic growth, improve public spaces, and ensure a cleaner, safer environment for future generations. I want to thank the Governor and the Commission for their continued investment into areas of need around the state.”

Mystic & Noank Library
The State Bond Commission approved $250,000 in funding through the State Library Grant program for much-needed upgrades to the Mystic & Noank Library. These improvements will modernize the facility, enhance accessibility, and support expanded programming for the community.

“The Mystic & Noank Library is an essential gathering place for people of all ages, and this funding will help ensure it continues to serve our community for many years to come,” said Senator Somers. “This investment is an important step in preserving a vital resource that promotes lifelong learning and community connection.”

Stonington Marina Construction
In Stonington, $250,000 in state funding will help support the development of a new marina, which will improve access to the waterfront, attract tourists, and provide local economic benefits. This project is poised to create jobs and enhance recreational opportunities in the region.

“Stonington’s coastal beauty is one of our greatest assets, and this new marina will allow us to capitalize on that while supporting local businesses and creating jobs,” said Senator Somers. “This project is a perfect example of how strategic investments can help revitalize our waterfront and contribute to the local economy.”

InterRoyal Remediation in Plainfield
The final approval of $8 million from the state’s Community Investment Fund will support the remediation of the former InterRoyal site in Plainfield. This funding will allow for the cleanup of environmental contamination, preparing the site for future redevelopment and potential economic growth.

“Plainfield will benefit from this investment, as it will clean up an underutilized site and open the door to new development and job creation,” said Senator Somers. “This is an important step toward revitalizing Plainfield’s economy and improving the environment for residents.”
