“Puzzling.” Senate GOP Statement on Lamont Administration Seeking to Add Former Fed Employees to CT Govt Workforce - CT Senate Republic

Sen. Heather Somers and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the Lamont administration seeking to add former federal employees to the state government workforce. (https://www.ctinsider.com/connecticut/article/connecticut-hiring-federal-employees-doge-20262688.php)
“This is puzzling. It seems like one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing in the Lamont administration.

Last month, the Lamont administration issued hiring restrictions while noting it continues to hire for essential positions, such as correctional officers.

We offered our qualified support, noting that Connecticut must stay under the spending cap and within the smart bipartisan fiscal guardrails.

Now we learn that the Lamont administration is expending state taxpayer resources in this fashion?

This is yet another example of the Lamont administration saying one thing and doing another.

We saw it in the governor’s February budget proposal where he did an end-run around the fiscal guardrails by creating an off-budget ‘endowment’.

We saw it in March when he was happy to sign a bill which created another off-budget account that went around the guardrails and made a mockery of them.

The overarching theme and pattern in the Lamont administration is clear: Set a policy, then violate it to try to score political points.”
