Advocating for Autism Awareness: Love, Courage, and Action - CT Senate Republic

Today at the State Capitol, I was deeply honored to stand alongside brave advocates, devoted families, and community leaders for Autism Awareness Day — all united by a profound purpose: to lift every voice, to open every door, and to ensure individuals on the autism spectrum have the support and opportunity to live full, independent lives.

Our focus was on the critical transitions — through school, into meaningful employment, and throughout everyday life — moments that should be filled with hope, not barriers. As I reflected on the journey since we passed landmark autism legislation 16 years ago and fought for vital special education funding this year, I was reminded that the most powerful force for change is love turned into action.

We have come a long way — but too many dreams are still delayed, too many talents still overlooked. We must do more. We will do more.

To the extraordinary parental advocates, self-advocates, and community champions: your voices move hearts and change laws. Your fight, your love, and your persistence inspire us to never give up. I carry your stories with me — and they fuel the urgency to keep pushing forward until inclusion, dignity, and opportunity are not goals, but guarantees.

Together, we can and must build a world where every person is valued, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

Let’s keep moving forward — stronger, louder, and together.
