Sen. Heather Somers, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. Henri Martin and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding an Apr. 4 state’s Psychiatric Security Review Board hearing which revealed how a current Whiting Forensic patient who was acquitted in the 2015 murder of girlfriend Delma Murphy by reason of insanity changed his legal last name without the victim’s immediate family being notified. “He now goes by a different name? Without the victim’s family being notified?
Why are violent crime victims’ family members treated so dismissively and with such disdain in CT? This individual is allowed supervised day trips into the community, like going to Walmart or going bowling.
It’s outrageous. And it’s a pattern.
In March, the board granted temporary leave privileges to an individual who killed another man with a bayonet. The privileges were awarded despite the board’s warning less than a year ago that he could pose a danger to others.
In February, the board released a cannibal killer which put CT in the international news. The individual now lives in a Waterbury group home. It is not known if the individual’s roommate or his roommate’s family has been made aware of his cannibalism.”
Where is Gov. Lamont? He doesn’t say a word. Why doesn’t he demand accountability from this state board?”
