Senator Somers Attends Pancreatic Cancer Screening Event, Highlights Donation to Project Purple - CT Senate Republic

NEW LONDON, CT— State Senator Heather Somers (R—Groton) today joined local leaders and community members at Mercedes-Benz of New London for a special event supporting pancreatic cancer awareness and screenings. The ceremony marked the presentation of a generous donation from the Greater Hartford Automotive Dealers Association to Project Purple, a leading Connecticut charity providing critical support to individuals and families affected by pancreatic cancer.

Senator Somers, who has been a key advocate for early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer, spoke about the importance of Senate Bill 1191, An Act Establishing a Pancreatic Cancer Screening and Treatment Referral Program, which is currently pending in the Connecticut Senate. This legislation is a crucial step toward creating a statewide program for individuals at higher risk of the disease. As the ranking member of the Public Health Committee, Senator Somers has worked closely with the Radiological Society of Connecticut to craft and advance this innovative bill.

“Pancreatic cancer is a devastating disease, and early detection can save lives,” said Senator Somers. “I am proud of the progress we’ve made with Senate Bill 1191, and I am deeply grateful for the generous support of local businesses like Mercedes-Benz of New London and the Greater Hartford Automotive Dealers Association. Their commitment to Project Purple will provide invaluable resources for families battling this disease.”

The event also highlighted the personal connection of Jeffrey Aiosa, CEO of Mercedes-Benz of New London, whose family has been significantly impacted by pancreatic cancer. Aiosa, who has become an advocate for pancreatic cancer awareness, presented the check to Project Purple during the ceremony.

“We are honored to support Project Purple and its mission to help those affected by pancreatic cancer,” said Jeffrey Aiosa. “This horrible disease has touched my family deeply, and it is an honor to join Senator Somers and other community leaders in raising awareness and supporting families facing this challenge.”

Project Purple is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for pancreatic cancer research and providing essential support to patients and their families. Through its efforts, Project Purple is helping to improve the lives of those impacted by this deadly disease.
