“Highly disturbing.” CT Senate GOP on Child Advocate Report
March 6, 2025

Sen. Henri Martin (R-Bristol), Ranking Senator on the Committee on Children, and Sen. Minority Leader Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield) today issued the following statement regarding a report from the Office of the Child Advocate that criticized the Department of Children and Families and the probate court for failing to protect a young woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her court-appointed guardian for over a decade, during which time she became pregnant and gave birth to his child.
“Highly disturbing. Heartbreaking. Infuriating.
We need systemic reforms.
The report flatly states that CT government failed to protect a child sexual assault victim.
As lawmakers, we must scour this report and make necessary bipartisan legislative fixes which strengthen our policies regarding child abuse.
We hope the governor will help to lead this effort.”
