Future Mileage Tax? CT Senate GOP: “How does THAT make CT more affordable?” - CT Senate Republic

Sen. Tony Hwang, Ranking Senator on the Transportation Committee, and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding the advancement of a bill (SB1447) which opens the door for a future CT mileage tax.

“Years ago, CT residents and job creators spoke out against tolls and defeated the mileage tax idea.

But now we know that a future mileage tax is back in play.

Instead of tolls, majority Democrats are again considering a by-the-mile tax.

How does THAT make CT more affordable?

CT motorists are already taxed enough. We already have a very high gas tax here in CT.

We urge taxpayers to keep speaking out against this burdensome taxation.

At the State Capitol, Republicans will continue fighting to defeat it before it receives final passage.

And we will also be taking our affordability message directly to working class families and small businesses in communities across CT.”
