CT Senate GOP on Gov’t. OT Spending: “This is a public safety issue” - CT Senate Republic

Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. Jeff Gordon and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding the state spending $378 million for overtime during the 2024 calendar year across nearly 50 departments in state government. “This is a public safety issue.

Long hours and excessive overtime can lead to fatigue.

We should be hiring more state troopers, more correctional officers and more nurses.

More must be done to ramp up recruitment in each of these areas.

We support the governor’s scrutinization of filling jobs in all categories and closely monitoring overtime on an ongoing basis to get this spending under control.”
