CT Cannibal Killer Released; CT Senate GOP Issues Follow-Ups
February 24, 2025

Sen. Heather Somers, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen Henri Martin and Sen. Stephen Harding today sent the letter to the Psychiatric Security Review Board regarding its Feb. 21 decision to grant the conditional release of cannibal killer Tyree Smith.
“To ensure that the board’s decision does not further put public safety in jeopardy, can you please tell us:
Where is Smith living?
In a Waterbury group home?
Does he have roommates?
If so, are his co-habitants aware of his past?
Is group home staff aware of his past?
Have the people in his neighborhood been made aware that he is living in their vicinity?
Who exactly is making certain he takes his medication?
Does he take medication daily? Multiple times a day?
Who makes certain that he doesn’t run out of meds?
He must adhere to ‘structured supervision and maintain specific mental health services and requirements.’ What exactly does that entail?
In other words, what safety protocols are in place so that he doesn’t re-offend?”
