Sens. Sampson & Berthel Statement re: “Sanctuary” State
January 9, 2025
Sen. Rob Sampson and Sen. Eric Berthel and issued the following statement regarding Connecticut’s attorney general saying he would rather not describe Connecticut as a “sanctuary” state.
“The attorney general prefers not to refer to Connecticut as a ‘sanctuary’ state. He says the word ‘sanctuary’ is not ‘helpful’.
He’d be more accurate if he called Connecticut a ‘super sanctuary’ state, because Connecticut most assuredly is.
And Connecticut’s super sanctuary policy is statewide, not just in a few cities.
That’s because Connecticut Democrats passed the Trust Act, which prohibits local and state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities – including for violent criminals who are convicted felons, known gang members, on the terrorist watch-list, or awaiting a deportation order.
And Democrats want to further enhance that law’s reach in the 2025 legislative session.
Connecticut Democrats have in effect built a flashing neon sign, inviting illegal immigrants here with free benefits.
America is a melting pot, but people should come in through the front door.”
