CT Senate GOP Statement on Fiscal Guardrails

The CT Senate Republican Caucus issued the following statement regarding attempts to dismantle CT’s fiscal controls in the 2025 legislative session.

“We support the governor and the comptroller in defending the smart bipartisan guardrails which Republicans fought so hard to implement in 2017 when the state Senate was tied.

Those controls have injected discipline into government spending and borrowing.

They have helped us pay down the state’s huge credit card tab.  They have brought stability to our budgeting.

They have even delivered much needed tax cuts for overburdened working and middle class families.

Because of the volatility cap, we are saving more than $700 million annually on pension debt. That significant savings is enabling state government to direct resources toward important priorities such as supporting vital human services for our most vulnerable residents.

Democrats who will vote to reverse this progress are also seeking family budget crushing, job-killing tax hikes.”
