Sen. Sampson Denounces Inappropriate and Threatening Conduct by Cheshire Public Schools Teacher

November 12, 2024

State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott) today denounced the politically driven threats made by a Cheshire Public Schools teacher, which she captured on video and uploaded to her personal social media account, and has since gone viral.

“Today, I am compelled to address the deeply troubling behavior recently exhibited by a Cheshire Public Schools teacher in a video that has widely circulated on social media. The video, allegedly featuring Special Education teacher Ms. Annie Dunleavy, contains threatening and bigoted language directed at those who support a particular political candidate or party. Statements that invite physical confrontation and use menacing language have no place in our schools or community.

“Such behavior must not be tolerated in any school system. Educators bear the vital responsibility to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their or their parents’ beliefs. The remarks in this video raise serious concerns about this individual’s ability to uphold that standard and protect the wellbeing of students in her care.

As a State Senator, I am fully committed to eliminating political bias from our classrooms. Education should equip students to think critically and independently, not to impose personal political views on them. Unfortunately, incidents like this reveal a troubling hypocrisy from the radicalized political left, which frequently accuses those on the right of bigotry and intolerance without evidence. Accountability should apply across the board.

“I urge Cheshire Public Schools to take swift and decisive action to ensure that all educators in our district uphold the highest standards of professionalism and respect. Our children deserve better, and our community expects accountability,” he said.
