Sen. Gordon Statement on Gov. Lamont Taking EV Mandate Off The Table
November 12, 2024State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today issued the following statement regarding Gov. Ned Lamont saying that an electric vehicle mandate is off the table for his administration.
“This is a victory for the hard-working people, families, retirees, farmers, and job-creating small businesses across Connecticut. I have been proud to stand with the taxpayers who cannot afford costly EV mandates with no plan for building the necessary infrastructure and paying for it all. Polls have shown that these are the big concerns that people have. Connecticut is already a high-cost-of-living state with sky-high electricity bills. Also, people want choice in the matter of what vehicle they buy (and what they can afford to buy). More mandates would only make things worse.
“I have been listening to people along with my fellow Republicans. We have reminded Governor Lamont to listen to the people. I welcome that he has done so. I will remain vigilant because the majority Democrats in the legislature might still try to rehash an EV mandate proposal with no real substance to it.
“I support reasonable, realistic, and responsible ways to address environmental and climate concerns in an inclusive manner. We share such common purpose. I continue to use common sense to see what bipartisan measures can be done wisely, in achievable and affordable ways for everyone in Connecticut,” he said.
