Post-Torrington Recount Totals, Sen. Lisa Seminara Calls for 8th District Recanvass

November 13, 2024

Sen. Lisa Seminara, who represents Torrington, issued the following statement:

“The recount in Torrington was revealing, and eye-opening.

It shows that the 8th Senate District race has now closed to less than one half of one percent, or 266 votes out of almost 60,000 votes cast.

The volatility in today’s Torrington results underscores the many issues we have heard about across the state as municipalities adapted to heavy early voting participation as well as heavy same-day registration voters.

It has never been more important that we ensure that every vote is counted and every voice heard.

Connecticut law calls for an automatic recount across each of the 11 towns of the district. Given how close this result is, I welcome the state-required recanvass. The recount will provide every voter the certainty that the result is fair and accurate.

I am formally withdrawing the concession I previously made. My decision is based on this new information that has come to light.

Given the irregularities already uncovered, this recount is an important step to reassure the public that the election was properly administered.”
