CT Senate GOP Statement on Gov. Lamont Taking EV Mandate Off the Table

November 12, 2024

The Senate Republican Caucus today issued the following statement regarding Gov. Lamont saying that an electric vehicle mandate is off the table for his administration.

“This is a victory for Connecticut taxpayers. Connecticut Republicans – and thousands of taxpayers – have spoken out against the EV mandate. Struggling Connecticut working and middle class families signed our petition at www.BanWithNoPlanCT.com.

Republicans welcome the governor’s announcement, but we must continue to stay vigilant. The EV mandate idea will no doubt be brought up again by majority Democrats in the state legislature.

Republicans support efforts to protect the environment and to make the air cleaner, but the multiple question marks and contradictions surrounding the EV mandate’s achievability, affordability, and budgetary impact remain serious concerns. We will continue to raise the following question to majority Democrats: If you’re going to mandate that every family purchase electric vehicles, then what is your plan to actually do that?”
