CT Senate GOP Statement on CT Having Highest Debt Burden
November 27, 2024Sen. Henri Martin and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding Connecticut having the highest 2022 debt burden among states at $7,988 per person – more than four times the national average of $1,808.
“Connecticut is #1 ….in the wrong category.
Already struggling middle class families in Connecticut feel that #1 ranking every day.
Our state government’s credit card is maxed out, and that debt burden is an anchor on our economic growth and prosperity.
The #1 ranking reinforces why our bipartisan, common sense fiscal guardrails must not be dismantled by majority Democrats in 2025.
Any lawmaker who votes to loosen those guardrails in 2025 is in favor of job-crushing tax hikes.”
