CT Senate GOP on Potential 43% Hike in Gas Bills
November 13, 2024Sen. Ryan Fazio, Ranking Senator on the Energy and Technology Committee, Sen. Jeff Gordon, and Sen. Minority Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the request filed today with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority by Yankee Gas seeking a $209 million rate hike.
“Residential customers who use gas to heat their homes would see bills rise by 43 percent if this request is approved.
We urge PURA to evaluate this filing in a probing fashion and defend consumers with all legal authority at their disposal.
Family budgets in Connecticut are already badly strained. Yet majority Democrats in the state legislature still have no plan to address already sky-high utility bills.
Republicans have continuously called for a special session to pass our six-point plan—or any feasible plan—to deliver relief on utility bills.
Nearly 70,000 Connecticut residents signed a petition to urge action.
Republicans continue to offer common sense solutions to lower costs for hard-working families, but our calls are ignored.
