Sen. Seminara statement on Disability Employment Awareness Month in CT

October 2, 2024

Sen. Lisa Seminara, Ranking Senator on the Aging Committee and the Human Services Committee, issued the following statement regarding October 2024 being declared as Disability Employment Awareness Month in Connecticut.

“I thank Gov. Lamont for his public recognition of the value and talent people with disabilities add to our workplaces and communities,” Sen. Seminara said. “As a state, we celebrate all of Connecticut’s residents with disabilities in the workplace and applaud their many accomplishments.”

When her daughter Martina was born with Cerebral Palsy, the mission to become her advocate deepened Sen. Seminara’s passion for fair education and opportunity for all. Sen. Seminara founded the Avon Special Education Parent Association, became active in the community, and created a non-profit that funded and developed a large parcel of land into a fully accessible playground that was donated to the town of Avon.

Sen. Seminara is a member of the legislature’s bipartisan Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) Caucus. This year at the State Capitol, Sen. Seminara was a leader in the effort to successfully pass Connecticut’s landmark Wheelchair Repair Law.

In 2023 and 2024, Sen. Seminara was awarded a 100 % grade by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) for her votes on issues impacting the state’s business community.

Sen. Seminara said she remains committed to increasing access and opportunities to all, including individuals with disabilities.
