CT Senate GOP: Poverty Rose More Than 40 % Under One-party Democrat Rule

For Immediate Release

The CT Senate Republican Caucus issued the following statement regarding a new report which reveals that poverty rose more than 40 percent in Connecticut from 2021 to 2022 with an even sharper increase among children.

“Just two weeks ago, a separate report highlighted how 39 percent of Connecticut households have fallen below the threshold at which they can afford essentials like groceries and electricity. Now, we see poverty rising more than 40 percent. Under one-party Democrat rule, Connecticut becomes tougher and tougher for families to make ends meet. The financial burdens only grow and grow. Republicans continue to offer common sense solutions to lower those burdens. Just last year, we proposed a $2,000 per child tax deduction in addition to the largest across the board tax cut in state history.”
