CT GOP statement on WeHa voyeurism investigation
October 9, 2024For Immediate Release
Sen. Heather Somers and Sen. Paul Cicarella, Ranking Senator on the Public Safety and Security Committee, issued the following statement regarding the ongoing West Hartford Police investigation of voyeurism and allegations of a man taking pictures of people in a dressing room without their consent.
“In 2019, Sen. Somers led the passage of a bipartisan anti-voyeurism law. That law makes it clear that no photography or video recording of sensitive areas may occur under or around a person’s clothing — even in a public place. We must continue to review our anti-voyeurism laws to determine whether they need strengthening.”
Sen. Somers introduced the 2019 legislation when a female employee of the Connecticut state legislature was subjected to voyeurism in the Legislative Office Building.
“We must continue to fight to support anyone who is violated in this and other ways,” the lawmakers said. “No one should have to endure this invasion of privacy.”
