Senator Tony Hwang Statement on September 11th

September 11, 2024

“Last week, we gathered at Sherwood Island State Park for the 22nd annual Connecticut State 9/11 Remembrance to honor and remember the innocent Connecticut lives lost on that tragic day, September 11, 2001. That day of infamy forever changed our nation, leaving a profound impact on countless families, friends, and communities.

We must never forget the heroes who selflessly answered the call to help, the brave first responders who ran toward danger, and the ordinary citizens who performed extraordinary acts of courage. The events of 9/11 remind us of the strength we have as a nation when we stand united, support each other, and extend a helping hand to our neighbors, friends, and even those we have never met.

In the face of unimaginable tragedy, we came together as Americans—bound by our shared grief, resilience, and a spirit of solidarity. In those darkest hours, we found light in our unity, proving that no matter the challenge, we are stronger together.

As we honor the memory of those we lost and extend our deepest sympathies to the families forever changed, let us also renew our commitment to the values that define us as Americans—compassion, courage, and community. Let this day serve as a reminder that we must always stand by each other, lift one another up, and strive to build a more united and hopeful future.

We remember. We stand together. We are Americans.”
