Sen. Sampson & Harding Statement on New CT Vote Tabulation Equipment
September 13, 2024Sen. Rob Sampson, Ranking Senator on the Government Administration and Elections Committee, and Sen. Minority Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding Connecticut’s new vote tabulation equipment.
“While it is nice to see the governor and our state’s chief elections official talking about voting machines, they really should be working on improving our election integrity policies. Early voting has been an expensive mess so far in Connecticut and has added heavy burdens on local election officials. The same problems that led to the national news-making Bridgeport embarrassment still exist. Republicans will continue to offer election integrity solutions include regular auditing of voter registration, including audits of absentee- and same day voter registration. Republicans will continue seeking to impose stricter security on the voting process by introducing a signature verification system and voter ID requirements for residents submitting absentee ballots. These systems are in place in other so-called ‘blue’ states, and they have added additional security to the voting process. On each of our proposed solutions, Democrats in the State Senate Chamber repeatedly voted ‘no’ to putting teeth into our election integrity laws. They voted ‘no’ to holding bad actors accountable. Republicans are not going away on this issue.”
