Sen. Kelly: Lawmakers “have to be constantly listening” to the People
September 30, 2024Those in the Senate without major party challengers include Sen. Kevin Kelly, R-Stratford.
“I try to be out and available for constituents as much as possible,” said Kelly, a former Senate minority leader who was first elected in 2010.
He’ll go door-knocking this Saturday in his district, which includes about 93,000 people in Stratford, Shelton, Seymour and Monroe.
Visits to senior centers and other events keep him in touch with constituents.
“I hope I adequately and accurately reflect them in the legislature. That’s what a legislator should do. I am their conduit to the government.”
Kelly recalled a recent issue when constituents had trouble settling coverage of a relative’s long-term care.
He was able to contact an insurance executive he knew through the General Assembly who helped with the claim.
“I’d like to think that after 14 years of working in the Capitol, I can help people through issues confronting them,” he said. “We have to be constantly hearing and listening.”
