Sen. Gordon: Regulators’ “Tone deaf” Decision Spotlights Need for Special Session ASAP on Electricity Rates
September 1, 2024Sen. Jeff Gordon today pointed to an Aug. 30 split 2-1 vote by the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) to turn down widespread calls to reopen a decision that resulted in a sharp jump in July electric bills as further evidence of the need for a special legislative session now to pass energy policy reforms.
“What a tone deaf decision, yet again. PURA Chairwoman Gillett dissented, to her credit, but she was outvoted once again. This frustrating decision shines a bright light on Connecticut Republicans’ continued demand for a special session now to help provide relief on electricity bills. The Democrats have punted decision-making to PURA. How is that working out, ratepayers? The Democrats blame the utilities. They blame Republicans. They say, ‘just wait until the weather cools down’. We can’t wait. Hard-working people, families, and job-creating businesses are getting crushed now. We must act. Democrats must stop shirking their responsibilities and stop ignoring the people of Connecticut.”
Sen. Gordon and all legislative Republicans have signed a petition to force a special session to address the sharp increase in Connecticut electric bills. He and his Republican colleagues have serious solutions to fix the electric bill crisis now and improve energy policies over the long-term.
Sen. Gordon continues to push for putting politics aside and having both parties work in a bipartisan way to get things done.
A website – SpecialSessionCT.com – allows residents to contact their legislators to urge them to support a special session.
Sen. Gordon hosts office hours on Tuesday in Woodstock at Woodstock Town Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. He is urging attendees to bring their electric bills.
Sen. Gordon’s Aug. 29 office hours event in Stafford was attended by many angry ratepayers.
