CT Senate GOP: Largest Fake Pill Seizure in State History Highlights Need to Review Penalties

Sen. Heather Somers, Ranking Senator on the Public Health Committee, Sen. Jeff Gordon, member of the Public Health Committee, Sen. John A. Kissel, Ranking Senator on the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Ranking Senator on the Public Safety and Security Committee and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the largest seizure of counterfeit pills in Connecticut history.

“It’s shocking. Poison being produced right in East Haven, Connecticut. Literally hundreds of pounds of it. We thank federal law enforcement for their work. At the same time, we as state lawmakers believe this seizure shows why we must review current criminal state penalties for those convicted of these acts. These pills could be taken as ‘real’ pills for medical conditions. This highly dangerous practice shows no regard for public health or human life. It will result in tragedies. Tougher criminal deterrents must be proposed and debated. Republicans will lead that discussion.”
