Styrofoam Recycling Initiative to Benefit Barkhamsted, New Hartford & Winsted Residents

Area lawmakers celebrate regional green initiative.

Area lawmakers on Aug. 27 highlighted a new edition at the Municipal Transfer Station in Barkhamsted to help recycle trash, specifically white Styrofoam.

Barkhamsted, New Hartford and Winsted residents can now bring bulky white Styrofoam to the transfer station to get recycled.

Sen. Stephen Harding, Rep. Jay Case, Sen. Lisa Seminara, and Rep. Mark Anderson attended the pro-environment announcement, noting that by some estimates, Styrofoam can take up 20 to 25% of a landfill due to its volume. The lawmakers commended everyone at Regional Refuse Disposal District 1 and at FOAM Cycle on the new Styrofoam recycling program partnership.
