Statement from Sen. Gordon on the PURA RAM decisions affecting electric vehicle rate recovery costs

August 14, 2024

“The additional $80 million electricity rate hikes set for September for the EV charging grid will be an unfair burden on hardworking people, families, retirees, and job-creating businesses. Connecticut already has a high cost of living, made worse by the big rate hikes that began in July. This new rate hike is tone-deaf and poorly timed, given the financial struggles that people are facing. Enough is enough!

“I continue to call for a special legislative session. My Republican colleagues and I continue to propose serious measures to address the electricity bill crisis in the short term and to bring about more reliable affordability for the long term. I also continue to work to address realistic environmental and climate concerns, but the reality is that we must not continue to burden people and businesses with extra costs from state government mandates. The governor and the Democrats need to listen to the people and work with us in a bipartisan way for the good of the people of Connecticut,” he said.

Last week, Sen. Gordon joined Senate and House Republicans to call for a special session to tackle soaring electric rates in Connecticut.
