Sens. Seminara & Harding: Lengthy DSS Service Delays are “absolutely unacceptable”

August 14, 2024

Sen. Lisa Seminara, who represents Simsbury and serves as Ranking Senator on the Human Services Committee and the Aging Committee and Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding a news report about a family of a dying man that has been waiting nearly one year for a Connecticut social services program.

“This lengthy delay is absolutely unacceptable. We share the deep frustrations expressed by Laura Oliver of Simsbury. Simply put, this program is failing vulnerable Connecticut families. We will be demanding answers and accountability from DSS. DSS must be proactive and responsive in its communications with taxpayers regarding the Community First Choices and all its state-funded programs. As state lawmakers, we worked in bipartisan fashion this year to pass policies which help people to age-in-place and remain in their homes. This disappointing news is a setback, and it must be promptly addressed.”
