Senator Hwang Urges Businesses Impacted by Flooding to Apply for Disaster Relief

August 27, 2024

Governor Lamont has announced a $5 million allocation of grants for small businesses impacted by the recent flooding in Western Connecticut. Grants of up to $25,000 will be available for small businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 100 employees in Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven Counties. Grants can be used to cover various expenses to help in the recovery, including those associated with cleanup efforts, replenishing lost inventory, and replacing equipment. The program will launch on September 3rd, administered by the Women’s Business Development Council. Applicants will be required to provide detailed descriptions of how their businesses were impacted and include photos, receipts, invoices, and estimates where applicable.

Senator Hwang applauded the Lamont administration’s efforts, and encouraged eligible businesses and nonprofits to apply for this funding, “Our communities have remained strong despite the significant damage experienced during the historic rainfalls and flooding this month, banding together to provide supports to those who have lost everything. I commend the Lamont administration for recognizing the need for financial support to our local small businesses. When this program goes live, I urge those small businesses who have been devastated by these storms to take advantage of this opportunity and seek relief by applying immediately. I will continue to work with federal, state, and local partners to ensure that adequate relief remains accessible.”
