Senator Hwang Statement on Federal Emergency Declaration for Connecticut in Response to Flooding
August 22, 2024Senator Tony Hwang issued the following statement today on President Biden’s emergency declaration for Connecticut in response to severe storms and flooding this past weekend.
“I applaud the federal government and all stakeholders for achieving a federal emergency declaration for our region. This emergency declaration will enable key funds to restore infrastructure. As the State Senator of Newtown, which saw more than 12” of rain in less than a few hours, I have seen the devastation firsthand. Roads and bridges were washed away. Homes were destroyed. Lives were lost. Others were changed permanently. Our communities must heal and rebuild. We have a long road ahead of us, but this is a strong start. I support meaningful relief for the homes and businesses that were impacted by these storms.”
